Overall, the number of 18-25 years olds studying in universities in the given countries had an upward trend. Malaysia had the lowest percentage of 18-25 year old university students throughout the period shown.
In 1961, the proportion of students at the age from 18 to 25 studying in colleges in Philippines were approximately 30% while the figure for Singapore was only 15%, which was twice as much as that for Thailand. In the meantime, Malaysia had a slight percentage of 18-25 year old undergraduates of well under 5%.
Over the following 30 years, the number of university students in 18-25 years old in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia all grew while the ratio of 18-25 year old graduates in Philippines moved up and down.
Throughout the remainder of the period, both Singapore and Thailand witnessed significant growths in the number of 18-25 years olds studying in universities and reached the same level in 2011, at around 60%. Meanwhile, the ratio of those in Malaysia gradually rose to hit slightly more than 20% in around 1995 and 1996 and stayed unchanged for the rest of the period. Whereas, the figure for Philippines fluctuated between over 35% and 45% and stood at 40% in the year 2011.Attachments:
