      Topic: today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
      In recent years, critics of advertising argue that advertising is the main drive of soaring sales of some products and service, inducing consumers to purchase what they do not actually need in their daily lives. This tendency certainly has both merits and demerits, which will be discussed in this essay.
      On the one hand, there are a lot of reasons why the power of advertising in maximizing the profit of companies. Firstly, the celebrity involve in advertising. The reason for using celebrities as endorsers is due to their huge potential influence. Celebrities have an ability to transfer their image to a specific product that being advertised. Therefore, the advertisement gains credibility of using products from customers. Secondly, the advertisement boosts the product attractiveness and evokes the customer’s curiosity and affect target customers’ psychology by using glamorous pictures and promise the benefits of products. Medicine, dietary supplement and other life-enhancing products provide a typical example. Targeting the buyers that are doubtful or worried about health, advertisers have sought to encourage them to think that they are threatened by such problems as malnutrition, dysfunction of any part of their bodies. Lack of the knowledge in this filed, the audience will rush to buy the advertised products. Such cases are ever-present. Furthermore, the strength of advertising through distribution of goods in the media such as TV, social network: facebook, youtube is always in high frequency.
      On the other hand, there is a variety of reasons why the advertisement creates a throw-away society. Firstly, advertising manipulates the choices and spending habits. This means that people do tend buy something unnecessary or even unaffordable, maxing out the credit card and lead to the loans. Secondly, a throw-away culture can generate more waste in society, which harm to the environment. However, it also reflects to real demand of human beings when population boom.
      In conclusion, with all the opinions mentioned above. In my opinion, I totally advocate that advertising is the main reasons of boosting sale and promoting economic development, evoking impulse buying what they do not actually need in their daily lives.
