The pie chart illustrates the reasons leading to the lower productivity in agriculture all over the world and the the table provides a brief view of their effect in three regions in the 1990s.
Generally, it can be seen that over-grazing was one of the main causes of the worldwide degradation and Europe was affected the most from those factors.
Accounting for more than a third, over-grazing came on top as the root cause of the decrease in agricultural productivity, followed closely by deforestation which took up a precise 30 percent of destruction. Over- cultivation was also a noticeable factor that took responsibilities for well-over a quarter of the fall. The other reason just occupied a modest of only 7 percent.
Europe was the region that had to suffer the most damage from those three factors with 23 percent of land being degraged and deforestation was the primary cause, destroying nearly a ten of the total land. Standing at the second place, Oceania recorded a total of 13% land having a fall in the agriculture production which was done by deforestation (1.7%) and over-grazing (11.3%). Degrading over a half of the total harmed area, at 3.3%, nearly doubled the figure of over-grazing, over-cultivation was the most important factor that led to the negative effect on land in the North America
