Research recently shows an increasing number of business meetings and business taking place online. Do advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?
Online business meeting has emerged as a brilliant alternative to traditional meeting. It has revolutionized the way we communicate with each other in the high times of globalization. In my opinion, this development brings more benefits than drawbacks.
It is undeniable that video conferencing plays an integral role at the workplace. It offers full control of the timetable and increased flexibility instead of traditional face-to-face communication. For instance, Vietnam prime minister annually meets the president of 24 provinces through screens. This not only helps save a great deal of time and money spent on traveling to the capital but also result in an increase in productivity. In addition, taking business online is likely to remove unnecessary high stress level. More importantly, in case that a member has an urgent problem, he/she could convene a meeting regardless of the colleagues’ presence at the workplace.
However, online platform also has some drawbacks. Firstly, it is the failure in flow of information that reduces the comprehension among meeting. As a result, the employees are clumsy, which leads to the state of being less productive. For instance, the technological breakdown occurs when the team is discussing will make people miss out some important points. Secondly, discussing through screen means that they do not have any golden opportunities to take in thorough explanation. Accordingly, they will find it difficult to complete the tasks efficiently.
In conclusion, in spite of some defects, online meeting still promotes the level of productivity as well as assisting people to use the time wisely.
