The table below shows statistics about the top five countries for international tourism in 2012 and 2013.
The table compares five highest ranking nations in terms of the numbers of visitors and the money spent by tourists over a course of two years.
It is noticeable that France was the most popular tourist attraction in 2012 and 2013. However, the USA earned by far the most revenue from tourism over the period.
In 2012, there were 83 million tourists visiting France. The year 2013 saw a slight increase to 84.7 which is the highest number in the data. By contrast, Italy was ranked in the last position with roughly 46 and 47 million visitors in 2012 and 2013 respectively. It is interesting to note that Spain and China experienced a similar number of people visiting from other countries at roughly 60 million.
In expenditure terms, the spending by tourists in the USA rose dramatically from $126.2 billion to 139.6 billion which were over twice as high as those in other countries such as China, France and Spain. Italy, however, got the lowest revenue from international tourism at approximately 42 billion dollars.new ver
