The pie charts illustrate the proportions of visitors coming to public libraries in Britain in 1991 and 2000 in relation to the purposes of their arrival.
Overall, it is obvious that the main reasons for people to go to the libraries is to borrow and return books which accounted for the largest percentage in both years. Besides, there was a new category of borrowing and returning videos appearing in 2000.
As can be seen from the chart, in 1991, 65% of visitors went to public libraries to borrow and return books. Nevertheless, this figure decreased to 55% in 2000. In addition, in 1991, only 10% of users paid a visit to public libraries in order to obtain knowledge; however, this proportion doubled in 2000.
While the percentage of people using public libraries to study and read newspapers or magazine made up 10% and 15% respectively in 1991, this figure fell significantly to only 2% and 5% in 2000. Moreover, a new category of borrowing and returning videos was present in 2000 with 18% of visitors to library users.
