The pie charts illustrate the population of Yemen and Italy by three age groups in the year 2000 and projections for 2050.

Overall, it is clear that the number of people aging under 60 in both countries made up the majority of the population in 2000. These two groups, however, are expected to decrease 50 years later.

In 2000, nearly a half of the Yemeni population was between 15 and 59, which is lower than the figure for Italy, which accounted for slightly under two thirds. Children made up about 50% of the Yemen’s inhabitants, which was significantly higher than that of Italy, at 14,3%. Only 3,6% of Yemenis are more than 60, which was about seven times lower than the figure for Italian population, at nearly a quarter.

In the end of the period, the percentage of citizens from 15 to 59 years old in Yemen is expected to witness a considerable increase to 57,3%, while that of Italy will decrease remarkably to under a half after 50 years. The number of children in both countries is predicted to show a substantial drop to 37% and more than one-tenth in Yemen and Italy, respectively. Only 5,7% of Yemenis will be seniors, which are significantly lower than the number of Italian elders, which will have reached 42,3% by 2050.
