The pie chart below indicates the principal factors which influence farm land `s efficiency. The table illustrates the level of effectiveness in certain parts of the world.
As can be seen from the pie chart, the major reasons of degradation are over-grazing, over-cultivation and deforestation. The percentage of soil that is degraded by cows ` grazing ranks second to none, with 35%. Chopping down the forest comes behind with 30%. When it comes to cultivation, the proportion has no significant difference with 28%. Likewise, all others reasons ammount to only 7%.
Let’s come to the table. While the percentage of land that is harmed by deforestation in Europe stands at 9.8% and ranks first, these figures in North America and Oceania is much lower, with 0.2% and 1.7% correspondingly. In the field of over-cultivation, the percentage in Australia and New Zealand accounts for the total of 0% compared with 7.7% in Europe and 3.3% in North America. By contrast, farmers in Australia and New Zealand let theirs cows graze too much, leading to the highest proportion of this field with 11.3%. Meanwhile, the percentage of EU exceeds that of NA with 5.5% and 1.5% respectively. Overall, the total degraded land in EU is the most (23%) , whereas MA and Ocenia accounts for 5% and 13% correspondingly.
