The pie charts demonstrate the population of Yemen and Italy by three different categories in the year 2000 and projections for 2050.
Looking at the chart, it is immediately obvious that the number of people under 60 years old made up the majority of the chart in 2000 and this trend will continue fifty years later. It is also notable that children are expected to experience a downward trend in their percentage as opposed to the elderly increasing in both countries.
In the first year, about a half of the Yemeni population was under fifteen years old, which was significantly higher than the figure for Italy, at 14,3%. While people between 15 and 59 in Yemen accounted for 46,3% of the population, slightly under two-thirds of Italians were in this age group. Only 3,6% of Yemeni citizens were more than sixty years of age, around one-fifth lower than the figure for Italy.
In 2050, people of the working population in both countries are predicted to account for the largest segment of the chart, at 57,3% and 46,2% in Yemen and Italy, respectively. While the older population in Yemen will only witness a growth of 2,1 per cent in its proportion, the year 2050 is predicted to see a nearly two-fold rise in the percentage of that age group in Italy. However, both countries are forecasted to experience a downward trend in the percentage of children, with Yemen’s and Italy’s figures at 37% and 11,5%, respectively.
