The pie charts compare the proportion of water usage for three separate purposes, namely industrial use, agricultural use and domestic use in six regions around the world.
It is clear that agriculture accounts for a significantly higher proportion of water use than the rest 5 areas. We can also see that industrial activities use the lowest percentage of water in Central Asia but the highest proportion in Europe.
Agricultural activities make up 88% of water use in Central Asia. This is 7% higher than in South East Asia, 4% in Africa, 11% in South America, 49% in North America and 56% in Europe. Industrial activities in Europe account for a higher relative amount of water (53%) than in North America (48%), South East Asia (7%), South America (7%), and Central Asia (5%).
The third usage purpose is for domestic activities. Domestic use constitutes under one-tenth in all three areas: Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia, but this figure goes up to 19%, 15%, and 13% in South America, Europe and North America respectively.
