Topic : some say that because many people are living much longer, the age at which people retire from work should be raised considerbly. To what extent do you agree or disagree
It is true that thank to advanced developments in the healthcare system, life expectancy is now longer than in the past, so some peole suggest that government should raise the retirement age significantly. I am completely in favour of this opinion
The first reason is that much senior staff can still make great contributions to their company although they aged over 60. The wide knowledge and practical experience they have accumulated through a long working period are valuable assets, and if they have chance to continue working, they can not only keep passing their professional experience to junior workers but also consult current employers with brilliant ideas. For example, my ex-director, after retiring, she is offered to become a consultancy for the new board of director, and she still contributes enormously to my company successes.
Secondly, this policy tends to relieve strain on not only pension fund but also on their children. The pension scheme is decreasing as a high proportion of the population now are old citizens. Provided that these citizens can still earn money, the urgent need for pension fund would not be an alarming issue anymore. In addition, they can even contribute to government fund by paying taxes. The burden on their children may also be reduced since the seniors can still enjoy working life. A job will bring them income as well as happiness and enjoyment in life.
In conclusion, due to these benefits mentioned above, I support that the pensioner should have opportunities to work longer
