Prison is the common way in most countries to solve the problem of crime. However, a more effective solution is to provide people with a better education. Agree or disagree?
Some people think that although there are plenty of governments in the world choose prison as the punishment for criminals, giving the society a better education is a more effectual way. I disagree with this opinion because I consider that both solutions play important role in reducing crime.
On the one hand, prison sentence is able to act as a deterrent effectively. If people are in jail, they have to face with variety of consequences behind the bars. For instance, it is clear that they can lose their freedom. That means they can be separated with their loved ones and get social isolation. One other reason is that prison helps community keep the dangerous offenders such as murders and terrorists not harm the public.
On the other hand, providing a better education is also essential to deter and reduce the crime. Education is especially important for the young people who are lack of life experience and involve in criminal activities easily. When youngsters have necessary knowledge in law and understand that unlawful actions have consequences, they can avoid breaking the law. For example, they must know about the harm of using and trading heroin to themselves and the society, as the result, that can deter them from activities concerning to the dangers of heroin. Furthermore, vocational education programs can help the prisoners prepare for a better life in the future after they are released. That is a good way for offenders to blend into the community and avoid committing again.
In conclusion, I argue that both education and prison sentence are essential to prevent and reduce the crime. Each solution plays an equivalent important part in the fight against crime.
