Some people think that schools are merely turning children into good citizens and workers rather than benefiting them as individuals.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people think that the main role of schools is to train children to become good citizens and workers other than for their benefits as individuals. While I totally agree that helping children grow up to be useful people in society should be the top priority of schools, I also believe that curriculum provided by schools to students will add value to their personal life.
On the one hand, there are a number of reasons why schools are considered to be places to produce responsible residents and laborers for a nation. Firstly, schools teach disciplines that help to turn children into to effective workers. Secondly, children learn not only what is right and wrong in school but also skills which enable children to succeed in the job market later on. Finally, schools instill the cultural values that are shared by society, and as a result children will have right behaviors and attitudes when dealing with people in the community.
On the other hand, children definitely benefit from education programs in schools as individuals. Through education, children are able to develop their understanding about the world in which they live. They also are given chances to choose subjects that best suit them and help them to discover their potential. In addition, teachers are trained to help children to understand their strength and improve their weakness. Therefore children can make use of their advantages and knowledge achieved from schools to progress for further education.
In conclusion, I believe that schools not only teach children to become respectful citizens and productive workers but also give chances for them to learn about the surrounding world and explore themselves as individuals, and it is unbalanced if curriculum of schools just focus on morality and ignore the individualism of children.
