It is argued by some experts that children should start learning a second language at elementary school instead of waiting until reaching higher education. While there are some weaknesses could not be denied, I believe that study a foreign language at the early age could bring more bright sides.
On the one hand, learning a second language besides their mother tongue at the age of 5-to-11 could be extremely challenging. Firstly, children have no conscious how important a new language might be, they would be overwhelming and even stress out if they must study another boring academic subject due to the inefficient approach of some teachers. Secondly, the durable inaccuracy of knowledge could leave a black hole on students due to a lack of high quality teachers in some public schools. To be more specific, a student would pronounce a sound incorrectly later on his life as the result of repeating a wrong word for a long time.
On the other hand, it seems to me that children should be taught a second language as soon as possible. One reason is that kids are full of positive energy as well as they are capable to pick a new word relatively easy through fascinating games. In addition, children do not afraid of making mistakes, they are willing to speak loudly an uncompleted sentence, this is a great way to learn new language. Another reason is that a foreign language like English would be put in an equal position with Maths and Literature due to the unstoppable growth of globalization in which everyone all over the world need to be able speaking the same language.
In conclusion, while there are some drawbacks to educate children a foreign language in such a young age, I believe that the benefits of this idea is far outweigh the negative.
