Some people think that studying from the past teaches us nothing about today’s life. Others argue that the history is a value source of information. Discuss both views and give your opinion
It is widely argued that learning about history and past experiences are absolutely a waste of time while others believe that a variety of valuable information may be found in the early stages of our civilization. In this essay, I will demonstrate that history is definitely beneficial to our lives and it must not be neglected.
Advocates of obviating the need of history may argue that learning past events cannot help us anything in the future. Many people try to memorize days, names and facts as they are learning history. However, these are not useful information in everyday life so it would be better for students to spend time and effort researching into other important subjects such as mathematics or computer science. Based on these knowledge, they may come up with brilliant inventions which may help improve the living quality. Furthermore, each historical events has a wide range of different perspectives. They, therefore, can be interpreted in distinct ways that can make people confused and probably give people a distorted picture about the world.
Nevertheless, I am of the opinion that history bridges the gap between the past and the future of the mankind. Most importantly, learning from the past encourages human beings to honor the ones who devoted their lives to the country’s independence. They also gain profound understanding about their own culture and how it has changed through the course of history, raising a sense of roots and belonging inside them. Moreover, a lot of inside knowledge can be found during the process of studying the past. For example, medical treatments such as acupuncture or secrets to build pyramids are discovered by deeply learning in history, which may help develop the world in a certain aspect.
In conclusion, the past of people is not time-consuming, in contrast, it helps people to realize their own worth as human beings. I must admit that history is of great importance to our lives and it should be studied with full interest and concentration.
