Some universities offer online courses as an alternative to classes delivered on campus. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
It is true that distance learning has become an increasingly popular trend in various colleges and universities. While I accept that this trend has both benefits and drawbacks, I believe that there are more disadvantages than advantages.
On the one hand, there are important reasons why people tend to engage in online courses. Firstly, the obviously greatest benefits of virtual learning are its convenience and flexibility. Learners need own a computer or laptop and have an Internet connection regardless of location, they can access lessons and manage their own pace of learning, which is convenient for busy adults or employees who wish to pursue higher education with the aim of progressing rapidly in their career. Secondly, all resources of distance learning offer a variety of courses from sciences to economics and others subjects, which empower students to choose their favorite theme. This is not only help learners promotes online and computer skills but also enlarge their knowledge about culture, people and social skills.
On the other hand, I believe that disadvantages of E-learning courses outweigh the benefits. Online education which is not require in regular face to face contact with teachers in the classroom will be limited social interaction and bring learners a feeling of isolation. Because they often hand in their essays or assignment online and receive feedbacks from their teachers via email without being instructed enthusiastically as the way other students who attend classes at school do. Moreover, spending too much time on their computers or laptops may lead to health problem for users. If they keep their eyes glued to screens for hour on dead, they suffer from eye-strain and headache.
