Some people think that all university students should study whatever they like. Others believe that they should only be allowed to study subjects that will be useful in the future, such as those related to science and technology (writing task 2, Cambridge 10)

While some people suppose that students should only choose their major if they like it, others advise them to study what is needed in the future especially the scientific and technological fields.
On the one hand, students should pursue their favorite studies so that they can achieve success. First of all, it is very important for students to study what they like so that they can exceed their limits and reach their full potential. For example, athletes who want to break the record should study what suits their strengths and they can only follow the harsh practice by strong discipline and real passion. Without strong desire, they will quit their studies. Moreover, by doing the favorite things people can overcome themselves and constantly study to bring about new products and spectacular achievements. To illustrate this, Steve Jobs has changed all our way of communication just by doing what he liked and he crossed the limit of technology.
On the other hand, science and technology which play an important role in our lives will need huge human resources especially in the future. It is obvious that science and technology help our people develop so that we can thrive against the nature and diseases. For example, medicines help cure millions of people from epidemics or the invention of telephones or aero-planes facilitate our transport methods when we can save lots of time and become safer when travelling. In addition, our people need constantly do researches to find out medicines to cope with cancers which are incurable at present or study on satellites to explore the space. Such areas need human resources and students are precious recourses to meet such demand.
In conclusion, students should select their studies either for their favorites or for useful application of their major that have both benefits towards humankind.
