It is observed that in many countries not enough students are choosing to
study science subject. What are causes? And what will be effects on
society?
It is true that there is a lack of students who choose science as their
major. This trend could stem from several reasons, and cause negative
impacts on society as the whole.
On the one hand, some causes of the tendency can be identified. Firstly,
those science subjects are difficult and demanding, which may cost those
students lots of time and effort. For example, a typical civil engineer
needs to complete a number of scientific researches as well as experiments,
which prevent them from having free time. Secondly, since becoming a
celebrity helps make money easily, many youngsters prefer being a singer or
and actor rather than a scientist. For example, for a great singer like My
Tam, besides receiving a large amount of money for her music performances,
she is also offered attractive advertising contracts from cosmetics brands
such as Olay, Ponds.
On the other hand, the lack of scientific students can have some adverse
impacts on the communities. One negative effect is that since learners
choosing to follow careers of science are insufficient, there will be less
enhancement of technology. For instance, it is really hard for a new smart
TV with innovative features and special functions to be released without
leading scientists. As a result, the improvement of living standard will be
prevented. Moreover, it is true that instead of science, most students
choose to pursue business due to great benefits of economy. Consequently,
the rate of unemployment will increase since the vacancies of business-
related jobs are limited. This could also lead to burden on society.
In conclusion, the shortage of students choosing science subjects is caused
by several factors, and this problem might bring about serious impacts.
