The table shows the proportions of pupils attending four secondary school types between 2000 and 2009.
The table depicts how many children who attended various types of secondary school, which was measured in percentage from 2000 to 2009. Overall, it can be seen from the graph that the proportion of students attended voluntary-controlled schools, specialist schools and grammar schools decreased, whereas there was only community schools saw a noticeable increase in the mentioned time.
In 2000, voluntary-controlled schools were occupied the highest figure, at over 50% compared to 12% of specialist schools and 24% of grammar schools. It still led the position despite the sharp declines to 38% in 2005 and a fifth in 2009, followed by the percentages of grammar schools and specialist schools which also dropped from 19% and 11% to one in ten in the same period respectively.
On the contrary, the proportion of children attending community schools experienced a substantial rise from more than one in ten in 2000 to 32% 5 years later and then kept increasing significantly to roughly three-fifths in 2009, becoming the highest figure among four types of school.
