The six pie charts illustrate the use of water for three different purposes (industrial, agricultural, and domestic use) in six regions throughout the world. In general, agriculture accounted for the highest figure in water use in most of these regions. The second priority of water was used for industrial purpose.
The figure for water used for cultivation made up the majority in Africa, Central Asia, South America, and South East Asia while these figures for North America and Europe accounted for roughly one thirds. Interestingly, while nearly half amount of water was utilized for industry in North America and Europe, this sector constituted only the minority (under 12%) in other regions.
South America accounted for the largest percentage in domestic water use (approximately one fifth) followed by Europe and North America (15% and 13% respectively). Meanwhile, the figures for Africa, Central Asia, and South East Asia were 9% and 7% respectively.
