Overall, while 2000 saw a drop in the number of those who walked, rode bicycles and travelled by bus, there were clear increases in commuters choosing car, long distance bus, train, taxi and other kinds. Generally, more English people took part in the traffic in 2000 in total than in 1985.
A more detailed look at the table reveals that, in both years, people were more likely to own a private car than the others, for roughly 3199 and 4806 in 1985 and in 2000 respectively. Similarly, around 366 of the general public took the train in 2000 compared to 289 in 1985. Taxi and Long distance bus experienced increases from 13 and 54 to 42 and 124 in turn. In contrast, while walking and bicycle achieved minor declines of 18 and 10 during the period, local bus impressively fell down by half of the number. Moreover, more than 100 people had access to other vehicles in 2000.
