The chart gives data on the volume of waste produced in six nations from 1980 to 2000. Units are given in millions of tonnes.
Overall, the amount of waste production increased during the period of 20 years, except for the case of Korea. In addition, of 6 countries the US was the largest producer of waste.
In 1980, the US accounted for the largest waste amount, at 131 units, in contrast to only 0.6 units in Ireland. Simultaneously, Japan was the second largest producer at 28 units. In 2000, the volume of waste in the US grew to 192 units. In comparison, Japan nearly doubled its waste output to reach 53 units in 2000. Sharing the same trend, Ireland reached its peak of 5 units in 2000, more than 8 times greater than that in 1980.
A reserve trend, however was seen in Korea, its waste output fell to 19 units in 2000. While in Poland and Portugal, the figures rose at slower paces than the three countries above. In 2000, the numbers of Poland and Portugal were 6.6 units and 5 units, in turn.
