The first diagram illustrates the process of producing glass containers, and the second diagram indicates the manufacturing process of turning used glass into new products.
Overall, originated materials pass through four stages before being ready for use as glass products. While the glass-recycling process requires five steps.
At the first stage of making glass, sand, soda ash, limestone and other chemicals are mixed together. The resulting mixture is melted at approximately 1500°C in glass furnace to create molten glass which then is shaped, by blowing, in order to form the final products, namely bottles.
Regarding to the second diagram, the recycling of glass begins with the collection of used glass products. Next, the collected glass is sorted according to its colour and subsequently washed to remove impurities. At the fourth step of recycling, the clean glass is crushed and melted after which it is finally moulded to produce new items.
