The charts depict the percentage of people’s entire expenditure on six different sectors in a European country during a 42-year period, commencing 1958.
Overall, food accounted for the highest proportion of expenditure in 1958, while people spent the vast majority of expenditure on housing in 2008.
In 1958, 32% of the entire income of citizens was spent on food, making it the largest spent sector. This is followed by housing with 22%, which was 4% higher than the figure for clothing. Additionally, citizens spent 13% of their income on recreational service, while spending on luxury goods and transport service was slightly lower, at 7% and 8 % respectively.
By contrast, in the year 2008, the proportion of travel and luxury goods were the similarity, at 17%, higher in comparison to entertaining service, at 6%. In the meantime, housing overtook food to become the most spent service, at 32%. Quite apart from this, expenditure on clothing and food dropped to 16% and 12% respectively.
