The line chart compares the levels of contamination in London over the period 1600 to 2000.Overall, two lines on the graph have a tendency to fluctuate similarly. However, there were always higher levels of sulphur dioxide than smoke during the period shown.
In the year 1600, the levels of both sulphur dioxide and smoke were low, with roughly 40 grams and 200 grams. However, the figure for sulphur dioxide significantly rose to reach a peak of about 1900 grams in 1850. Likewise, there was a gradual increase in smoke levels, at about 450 grams in the same year.
Within a period of 150 years from 1850 to 2000, the levels of surphur dioxide enormously decreased by nearly 900 grams. In 2000, the levels of smoke dramatically fell to a negligible amount after reaching the highest point of 500 grams in 1900. Additionally, there was a great deal of fluctuation in both smoke and sulphur dioxide levels from 1920 to 1970.
