The line graph provided compares China and the USA in terms of the changes in fertility from 1920 to 2000.
Overall, a general decline in the birth rates of both nations was recorded throughout the period of 80 years. However, the figure for America in most years was higher than that of China.
The US saw a slow fluctuation at somewhere between 11 and 13 percent in the birth rate from 1920 to 1940, before falling significantly to a very small number, around 5 percent in 1945. In the following 5 years. The US birth rate reached its peak at 15 percent. Throught the remainder of the period, there was a gradual reduction in the US birth rate, which droppede to 7 percent in 2000.
Over the same period, China’s birth rate varied more significantly than the rate of America. Increasing by 5 percent from 1920 to 1935, the figure for China then dropped to 5 percent in the 1940s. On the other hand, from 1945 to 1950, China underwent a sharp jump to 20 percent in the birth rate. This was followed by a steady fall, reducing to in the vicinity of 2 percent in 2000.
