The pie charts indicate changes in the percentage of the energy generated from different resources in a country in 1985 and 2003.
Overall, throughout 18 years, oil accounted for the largest proportion of resource used to produce energy. While the percentage of the energy created from nuclear dropped significantly, that of natural gas and coal rose enormously.
Initially in 1985, oil took up over half of the total energy production. Despite the fall of 13% during 18 years, oil was still the most popular resource with the figure of 39%. Coming right after oil in 1985, nuclear is the second most common resource with 22%. However, it slumped to 8% in 2003, only higher than hydro and other renewable sources.
In terms of other resources, starting with a small amount of 8% in 1985, coal rose rapidly to 22% in 2003. Natural gas also experienced a marked increase of 10%. In addition, the decline in percentage of nuclear contributed to make natural gas and coal become the second and third respectively most popular source of energy. Conversely, the amount of hydro used to make energy remained constant and other renewable sources showed a slight increase of 4%
