The picture describes the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the Earth known as the water cycle.
Overall, there are three main stages in this process, beginning with the evaporation of water from the ocean, falling to the ground, ending with salt water intrusion
At the first step of the process, water evaporates into the air because of the sun’s heat. It can be seen that about 80% of water vapour in the air come from the oceans. Water vapour condenses when hitting the lower temperature to form clouds. In the next stage, called `precipitation’ on the diagram, water pours into the ground as rain or snow. Rainwater returns to the oceans via the various paths. Amount of rainwater falls into lakes and its streamflow moving towards the oceans through the surface runoff. Some rainwater infiltrates deep into the ground, reaching the impervious layer of the earth to create groundwater. The final stage of the process is the salt water intrusion where takes play before groundwater passed into the ocean to complete the water cycle.Attachments:
