The chart compares the average household spending in Japan and Malaysia in terms of five different categories in 2010.Overall, spending on other goods and services, food and housing accounted for the most significant proportion in both countries. Additionally, the figures for transport were health care in Japan were double those for Malaysia.
In Japanese households, spending on other goods and services took up the highest proportion with 29%, but it was 3% higher than that for Malaysia. Spending on housing in Malaysia accounted for the highest percentage in the five categories shown with 34%, compared to 21% for Japan. In terms of food, the figure for Japan represented 24%, which was 3 % lower in comparison to Malaysia.
Householders in Japan spent 6% of their income on health care, which was exactly double that for Malaysia. Likewise, there was twice as much spending on transport in Japan as in Malaysia, at 20% and 10% respectively.
