The given diagrams provide statistics about the quantity of research students as well as percentages of male and female in Australian universities in two years, 2001 and 2010.
As can be seen from the diagrams, over the period of 9 years, Australia experienced a considerable growth in the number of research students in while there was no obvious difference recorded in gender rates.
In detail, there was nearly 39000 student conducting research in Australia in 2001. The majority of this figure, 87% (33657 students), came from different regions in Australia while over 5000 international research students accounted for the remaining 13%. A similar pattern was also witnessed in the total number of over 54000 research students in Australia in 2010 when 73% of it were local students, compared to 27% of international ones.
In terms of gender, among local students, the proportion of female was exactly the same as male’s one in 2001, 43%. Although this rate decreased slightly to 39% in 2010, it was still 4% percent higher than that of male research students. Additionally, there were noticeable growths in gender rates of both male research students (from 4% to 15%) and female ones (from 9% to 13%) over the period.Please take a look. Thanks!
