Many people believed that the only solution for decreasing the rate of traffic accidents is to force drivers facing sterner punishments when they break the traffic rules. I disagree with this opinion because I think that if we want to deal with this problem, we should use varies way instead of the only one.
On the one hand, just punishing drivers can not solve the problem. Firstly, people will be reluctant to follow the rules. They just do that because they do not want to lose their money or being in prisons. Therefore, unless police or cameras appear, they will break the safety rules because of convenience, for example, pass red because they do not want to be late their meeting. Secondly, perhaps extremely stern punishments cause overreaction from drivers even negative one. In Vietnam, some police were hit by divers who wanted to escape from the police.
On the other hand, punishment can not deal with the root of the problem but education. The more thoroughly people can understand about the risk of breaking safety rules, the more willing they were to follow them. Therefore, regard of police attend or not, people still follow traffic rules. For example, in Vietnam, initially, people against to the law which requires everybody who drives motorbike has to wear helmets, but now, majority of people wear them without attending of police because they understand the role of helmets in protecting their heads.
In conclusion, it is ineffective if we just punish drivers to improve the safety on roads.Attachments:
