36. In schools and universities, girls tend to choose arts while boys like science. What are the reasons for this trend and do you think this tendency should be changed?

The proclivity in universities that girls are passionate about arts whereas boys prefer science has currently been the subject of increasing concern in the society. Some of specific rationales for this matter will be discussed before deciding whether this is a positive inclination.

Reasons for this academic situation vary. In some cases, distinctive personalities between genders may result in students’ differences in subject preferences. As a matter of fact, while females appear to show interest to fields that require patience and meticulousness, subjects involve analytical and calculating skills always captivate male youngsters. In some other cases, it has been proven that two sexes show different competence and excellence at their favored types of subjects. For example, women are likely to be more appropriate for adroit work such as sewing and drawing than men who, however, can give better performance on tackling with numbers and formulas.

From my perspective, I feel that changes to this development is quite unnecessary. Initially, children choose the environment where they think they can best cultivate their aptitudes. Otherwise, it may bring about undesirable results or even create such unwanted resentment and harsh attitudes towards their study. Furthermore, encouraging the youth to pursue their strength and dream can help students build more confidence and immensely excel in their fields. As a result, the country will benefit by seeing a remarkable futuristic prospect thanks to the increase in talents.

To conclude, it seems that distinct characteristics and competence are largely the two causes of the given tendency. However, choosing to maintain and preserve this trend rather than doing anything about it would be highly advisable.
