Consumers are faced with increasing numbers of advertisements from competing companies.
To what extent do you think consumers are influenced by advertisements? What measures can be taken to protect them?
Some people argue that they are affected by the numbers of advertisements from competing firms. I totally agree with this statement and there are several solutions that the authorities can implement on to protect customers.
On the one hand, the increase in advertisements has a negative impact on customers. What with the margin profits, many companies exaggerate the benefits of their products, people could hardly choose for themselves the best things. For example, firms use poor quality materials to reduce the cost of products with the view to increasing the competiveness among companies that produce the same things. The products which are cheap and good quality as they are advertised will attract many low-income consumers; however, these products are not only not used for a long time but also money-consuming. In addition, many firms choose children as their main customers; therefore, they use colorful and lively advertisement to appeal children. By contrast, if parents do not but for them the products that children saw on advertising, they might have bad behaviors toward their parents until they have what they want.
On the other hand, there are some measures that the governments can adopt to protect customers. Firstly, the governments should create new board which is responsible for checking the truth of advertisements. Secondly, the authorities should also have some programs that advise customers which one they should purchase and which ones they should not. For instant, radio programs can tell the customers the benefits and drawbacks of products, so they can take these products into consideration and then buy ones that suits them most.
In conclusion, although advertisements can influence customers to some extent, there are many solutions which can be taken to in order to protect them.
