Nowadays, international tourism is the biggest industry in the world. Unfortunately, international tourism creates tension rather than understanding between people from different cultures. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Answer:
With the fast – paced development in transportation and economic sectors, travel is easier than ever. However, some peole concern that corss-border tourism may lead to grudges between tourists and local inhabitants. While I accept that tourism may have such detrimental effects, it still stimulates cultural exchanges.
On the one hand, the travel can lead to misunderstandings due to visiting time constraint. Specifically, tourists often spend a limited amount of time for visiting a place or a country, which can result in biased viewpoints. Besides, an essential and vital factor nourishing relationships between people, especially those from different cultural backgrounds is time which is confined to normarlly less than one month in tourism. People may have disagreements at first, but can develop in harmony later. Thus, the lack of time can cause tension between visitors and natives.
On the other hand, I strongly believe that transnational travel is an effective way to raise one’s awareness of other cultures. Nowadays not only is tourism regarded as a leisure activity but it is also seen as a measure to broaden people’s mind. Tourists perceived it as a way to improve themselves, including views, lifestyle, attitude towards discrepency. They want to make friends with people from distinct cultural backgrounds to enrich their life experience. In fact, visitors are increasingly interested in traditional activities and local customs, which provide them a chance to interact with and understand indigenous people in a vivid and truthful way. Hence, international tourism must be encouraged as it facilitate cultural understandings.
In conclusion, it is true that some misunderstandings between people can happen in international travel. Nevertheless, I would argue that travel can bring many benefits associated with mutual apprehension between people from different countries.[6/7/2018, 8:37:29 AM] Cám ơn các bạn!
