Some road users prefer private vehicles than public transportation services. Then, some people argue that it is dependent on policies of authorities to make public modes of transport such as buses and trains more preferable. While I agree that state organizations can be a factor, I believe that there are other factors needed to be taken into consideration.
On the one hand, there are two main methods that the government can develop to increase the number of bus users and train passengers. Firstly, the government can invest more on infrastructure of public transport. Obviously, many inhanbitants will switch from their own vehicles to the public transit service if this kind becomes more convenient for them to commute between places. Secondly, fares of buses and trains can subsidized by public funds. As a result, people will perceive that these means of transport are more beneficial than private means in term of finance.
On the other hand, several other elements can influence decisions of people regarding this issue. The first element is that some people may choose their own cars because this is a way for them to express their wealth. Specifically, some car owners favour luxury car brand names to show their prosperity. The second element is associated with convenience of private vehicles. For example, you can freely sing your favorite songs in your own car but need to keep silent in a bus or train. In addition, when travelling by public transport you sometimes must stand up because it is often overcrowded, however in your own car, this never happens.
In conclusion, it seems to me that apart from governmental factors, there are other factors contributing to the prevalence of public transport.Attachments:
