Prison is the common way in most countries to solve the problem of crime. However, a more effective solution is to provide people with a better education. Agree or disagree?
Answer:
People often argue about which is the most effective measure to prevent offences, imprisonment or educational methods. Personally, I strongly believe that education is more important than incarceration in dealing with criminal issues.
On the one hand, prison is uneffective in rehabilitating prisoners to law-abiding citizens. To be more specific, prison is only a way to keep offenders away from the society, but can not alter their behaviours. The first reason is that it is quite difficult for inmates behave appropriately after a long time being isolated. The second reason is that prisons often do not offer some necessary educational programs for them such as anger management due to financial constraints. In addition, education should be provided before a crime is commited rather than afterwards. In fact, readivism rates is relatively high in some countries even prison is widely used as a strict form of punishment.
On the other hand, education’s potency is higher than that of the above mentioned measure in the long run. To begin with, education forms an integral part in shaping children’s personalities since kids develop their cognitive and behavioural trails at early ages, many of which are the threshold for their furure characteristics. In addition, education makes children less prone to violent actions. For example, if children struggle with cooperating and act out, if they participate in early childhood educational programs, they will have abilities to channel their frustrations and negative energy into appropriate actions which are safe and un-violent methods for resolving disputes.
In conclusion, I would argue that investment in solutions associated with education is more effective than in prison systems in reducing crime rates.Thanks for trusting us!
