Nowadays, more and more people are deciding to have children later in their life. What are the reasons? Effects on society and family.
It is true that nowadays married couples are opting to have babies in the later stages of their lives. This trend can be attributed to various factors and its impacts on society as well as families are definite.
There exists two driving causes behind people’s decision to delay their childbirth. The foremost reason is that women are getting married much later as most of them want to focus more on their career to establish financial stability. Also, the increasing divorce rate partly contributes to their late marriage. They need time to think thoroughly to choose a right spouse and raise a family together. In addition, young people especially newlyweds always prefer to enjoy their lives and spend most of the time with their partner. The commitment attached to childbearing and rearing may be a hindrance to their enjoyment. For example, my sister who is a travel enthusiast after getting pregnant was forced to stay at home to look after her newborn for some months.
However, considerable effects of this trend on both communities and parents themselves are undeniable. It is clear that if the number of children born each year decreases, the number of workers will gradually decline and aging population can be a great concern. Consequently, tax payment will go down and state budget will be tightened leading to less spending on social infrastructure and public amenities. In terms of family members, especially the mothers, having children at the old age exerts detrimental impacts on women’s health. Being impregnated after the age of 35 may result in miscarriage for women. Furthermore, the children who are given birth by elderly couples are more likely to suffer from physical and mental disabilities. For example, the offspring of over-35-year-old mothers have more risks of contracting Down Syndrome than others.
In conclusion, delaying childbirth is influenced by parent’s concerns over career and satisfaction. However, people should think thoroughly of advantages and disadvantages of this trend before making final decision.[4/09/2017, 8:50:35 AM] Cám ơn các bạn!
