Some people think that young people can learn useful skills by playing electronic and computer games. Others argue that people who play electronic and computer games are wasting their time. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
It is widely argued that youngsters can benefit greatly from computer games by acquiring a range of skills, while others think that it is time-consuming for people to play these forms of entertainment. In my opinion, though there exist several advantages that gamers can obtain through gaming, I believe that they are outweighed by disadvantages.
On the one hand, playing computer games may help the young improve their cognitive and critical thinking skills. These skills are of paramount importance especially to children at their developmental stages when they are exposed to games which require a lot of attention and observations. For instance, puzzle is a kind of brain game, which enhances players’ skills to deal with difficult quizzes. Those children who are excel at playing puzzle may probably deal with mathematics problems more easily than other peers. Moreover, when taking part in team-based games, young people also develop their group work skills and are more likely to help others in reality.
On the other hand, I firmly support the idea that electronic games can inflict more harms than good. First and foremost, sitting in front of computers is a complete waste of time. Since the Internet has increasingly improved, a large number of games are designed to entertain the users. However, without an appropriate schedule, humans especially the young can easily be immersed in virtual reality and forget their surroundings by which many young people have become game addicts. This result can affect not only their health but also their brains and other activities. Furthermore, several types like war games or stealth shooter can provoke players’ violent behaviors through three-dimension bloody graphics. A case in Quang Ngai Province perfectly exemplifies the aforementioned problem. A teenager there, after being addicted to counter strike, had committed crime to gain money in order to put into games.
In conclusion, although computer games can offer young people several benefits which are helpful for them in certain aspects, there are more drawbacks that should be immediately avoided.
