Nowadays many people have access to computers on a wide basis and a large number of children play computer games. What are the negative impacts of playing computer games and what can be done to minimize the bad effects?
It is irrefutable that in information age, getting access to computers is becoming easier and more and more children are allowed to play computer games which are posing an imminent threat to these kids’ daily lives. While there exist a number of harmful effects, I believe schools and parents also have several viable solutions to mitigate this dire situation.
The harms that computer games are inflicting on children are definite. The foremost repercussion is that the kids’ health can be severely affected. Spending many hours in front of computers can cause eye diseases or even permanent vision loss due to the exposure to the blue light from computer screens. Moreover, instead of taking part in outdoors activities, children prefer gaming and making use of their free time gaming, which can increase the risks of suffering from childhood obesity. Another detrimental impact is that game addiction reduces the quality of communication. These teenagers tend to spend less time talking with friends and family members or even have aggressive behaviors. Consequently, their close-knit relationships in real life may gradually be ruined.
In order to address the aforementioned issues, parents and schools can adopt some of the following effective solutions. In terms of teachers and schools, they can raise their students’ awareness of adverse effects of computer games on health by adding these information in lessons. Parents, however, are definitely the most important ones who can cope with this problem. First, mothers and fathers should put forward a set of strict rules preventing their kids from playing games too much. Perhaps they can use rewards to encourage the children to join other outdoors activities. Second, it may be better taking the computer out of the children’s bedroom or living room. Also, parents should spend more time talking with their offspring and explain to them what is bad or good for their health.
In conclusion, playing computer games is not a good way to entertain especially with children; therefore, parents and teachers should assume responsibilities to protect their kids from foregoing negative impacts.
