It is important for children to learn the difference between right and wrong at an early age. Punishment is necessary to help them learn this distinction. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? What sort of punishment should parents and teachers be allowed to use to teach good behavior to children?

It is necessary to teach children to distinguish between right and wrong at an early age by certain punishment. I believe that punishment is meant to help children learn lessons and this kind of punishment does not involve beating the children is useful.
On the one hand, I believe people at their youth should be taught to make the distinction between right and wrong because early childhood experiences and lessons are easy to be absorbed and lasting impacts on someone’s life. Children are curious, desire to export new things and sometimes less mature to understand certain harmful effects of doing something, therefore it is a perfect time for parents and teachers to teach morality and good qualities to children. Otherwise, they often need to use certain punishment to teach a valuable lesson and the purpose of this punishment should be teaching a morality, should not be driven by any sort of personal anger and frustration. The physical punishment of a child is necessary to elicit a response of subordination from the child which they will be more careful to please the parent when they asked to or not to do something. This can make them lose their sense of creativity and confidence.
While physical punishment is no longer used in most developed countries, it could be still found in underdeveloped countries. Instead of using physical punishment, I believe there are more effective way that could be used to educate children. For example, forcing them to sit in a corner or a quiet place in a certain time to think about what they did, and then explain everything in a kind and respectful manner is a better way. In this situation, children would be aware that they did something wrong by themselves and know more the reason why they cannot do it again. Other than that, some punishment such as not talking to the child for misbehaviour or not taking him to the playground for a day or two is also effective.
To conclude, punishment is sometimes necessary to educate children about the bad things and the good things, however, people who have responsibility for teaching children need to use the appropriate penalties.
