Students should focus on learning in the classroom rather than show their status by wearing fashionable clothes. Therefore, all students have to wear school uniforms.
Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
It is true that students ought to keep concentration on their learning process rather than display their social or economical status through trendy outfits in schools. For this reason, it is often argued that every student is required to wear school uniforms. In my opinion, I strongly agree with this idea due to advantages of school uniforms and disadvantages of casuals.
There are several benefits that uniforms could bring to students and schools. Firstly, wearing the same formal outfits could ensure students’ better academic achievements by reducing distraction and sharpening focus on school work. This is because they could not worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes and therefore devote more time and efforts to strive for great grades. Secondly, school uniforms help to promote structure and discipline inside of classrooms as not only could these dress codes create serious learning environments, but also improve identity for particular educational institutions and students’ attitude towards schooling. Finally, if all students who come from diverse economic backgrounds are dressed exactly similar clothing, socio-economical inequalities can be eliminated effectively.
I also believe that wearing home outfits may cause some school problems. When students freely show off stylish clothes, this might lead to competitions about catching up latest fashion trends. As a result, students from low income families who are not able to afford exorbitant and fashionable clothing would feel isolated and inferior to others who have better dress sense and more money or even become targets of bullies. Furthermore, inappropriate costumes such as tank tops and short skirts could be considered as unwanted distractions in classrooms. For example, secondary school male students who reach the age of puberty are more likely to lose their concentration on lessons when they sit with their female classmates wearing these sexy clothes.
