Writing Task 2: A person’s worth nowadays seems to be judged according to
social status and material possessions. Old-fashioned values, such as
honour, kindness and trust, no longer seem important.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? It is true that today people are more assessed by the physical materials
they own rather than their virtues, but I still believe that the moral and
good virtues are very essential to each of us.We are living in the era where materialism is becoming predominant more
than ever before. Firstly, people’s mindset about success has tremendously
changed that success means wealth, position and fame. People are more
likely to establish a social relationship and have business affairs with
rich and powerful people. Secondly, we are automatically recognized and
respected by the others if we earn a lot of money, get promotion or have a
certain social ranks. Lastly, the more materials we have, the better life
and service we will receive, therefore people try hard to own as much
possessions as possible and neglect about the morality. However, our good character, morality and prestigious is still vital in our
lives. A reason is that characters define what we are. We can not maintain
a long relationship or an affair with a characterless person and a company
or even a nation will not have a sustainable development if it is leaded by
virtueless leaders. Besides, at schools and in all families, parents and
teachers always educate children to become a good person first, beyond a
successful one. Therefore, being a kind and trustful person is always the
first priority in our education that a basic milestone to our future. In a word, although people tend to focus on materials to evaluate a man,
but our insight such as goodness and morality is still the firm foundation
to build our human beings.Attachments:
