The chart below gives information about the most common sports played in New Zealand in 2002.
The bar chart compares the percentages of boys and girls who took part in various sports in New Zealand in 2002.
Overall, it is clear that there were significant differences between the rate of males and females who participated in the studied sports. However, the proportion for tennis and basketball was similar.
Among female sport players, around 26% played netball. This figure was nearly four times as much as that for people who exercised tennis, at about 7%. According to statistics, swimming was the second favorite sport for girls, at approximately 24% which was twice in figure compared with other sports. While 6% of girls had a fun with soccer and 5% loved athletics, less than 5% enjoyed marital arts and cricket.
In contrast, among male sport players, only 2% took part netball which was the least figure for male participants. The sports with the highest participation percentage were soccer, swimming and cricket, with 25%, 14% and 12%, respectively. Followed were marital arts, basketball and athletics which varied between 5% and 10%. Under 20% of boys played other sports.Attachments:
