The line chart illustrates the average carbon dioxide emitted from each individual in four European nations starting in 1967 and finished in 2007.
Overall, while there were significant increases in the amount of CO2 emissions in Italy and Portugal, those figures decreased substantially in England and Sweden.
On the one hand, although Italian residents were the second lowest contributor of CO2 emissions with just above 4 tonnes in 1967, the amount of CO2 they emitted was at the second highest level at the end of the period, which almost doubled its original figure. Similarly, Portugal witnessed a dramatic rise in the amount of CO2 emissions from less than 2 tonnes to somewhere in the vicinity of 5.5 tonnes in 2007, but it had the lowest emissions during the entire period.
On the other hand, starting at the highest point at the beginning, the amount of CO2 dropped considerably in the UK by approximately 2 tonnes. Even though there was a slight growth in Sweden in the first ten years, the following 30 years saw a sudden decline in the statistics of COS emissions to the lowest amount among the four countries and equaled to their counterpart in Portugal.
