The table illustrates the quantity of foreign visitors who traveled to the UK from 1975 to 1998.
Overall, the number of foreign people who have trips to the UK increased considerably for all sectors over the period shown. And most of the foreigners were from EU and Western European countries, which were the highest number.
The number of overseas residents going to the UK for holiday visits to friends and relatives and miscellaneous visits rose significantly from 7.7 to 18.9 million between 1975 and 1998. At the same time, there was a substantial growth in the figure for business from 1.8 to 6.9 million. The numbers of leisure visitors were also around three times higher than those the figures for business.
The quantity of overseas people stopping at the UK climbed sharply in during these periods by nearly 11 million. During 23 years experienced a gradual upward trend in the numbers of residents from North American and other countries visiting to the UK, with from 1.9 to 4.6 million and from 1.7 to 4.6 million respectively.
