These days more fathers stay at home and take care of their children while mothers go out to work. What could be the reasons for this? Do you think it is a positive or a negative development?
It is true that the growing number of men takes on the role of househusband, while more women than ever become breadwinners in their families. There could be several reasons for this, and I consider it as a very positive trend.
In recent years, there are a variety of changes parents have had to adapt to in our society. Firstly, the increasingly knowledge- based economies lead to an occupational shift. As a result, the large number of repetitive manual jobs which has been dominated by men are now replaced by office jobs which are more suited for women because of their distinctive characteristics such as patience and carefulness. In this line of work, male candidates are more likely to be outperformed by female counterparts when applying for the same positions. Thus, more men could face unemployment and stay at home, whereas more women successfully enter workforce. Secondly, equal rights movements have made breakthroughs. It is socially acceptable for men to look after their children and do household chores and for women to gain qualification and pursue a career.
In my opinion, these mentioned changes can be seen as progress. One benefit is that gender equality can be achieved if women are not put under pressure to sacrifice their career prospects and men are free to leave jobs to assume childcare responsibility without any criticism. Another benefit is that working mothers could make great contributions to national development by paying taxes to government. The government would use collected money for improving infrastructure, creating more job opportunities and reducing poverty rate.
In conclusion, the changing roles of men and women in the family are a result of wider changes in society, and I believe that these developments are desirable.[1/23/2018, 7:15:31 PM] Cám ơn các bạn!
