Some say that because many people are living much longer, the age at which people retire from work should be raised considerably
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is widely true that thanks to development of medical industry and living standards, the life expectancy of the human being is extended significantly. As a result, I suppose that the government should increase the average retired age of people, which is beneficial to both individuals and societies.
On the one hand, a rising in retired age can bring some benefits in the personal lives. It is obvious that people could earn a living to support their families if they are still able to work. Not only can this remove a financial burden placing on their children but also the old people can feel to be more valuable and not isolated in their lives. Moreover, having an appropriate amount of work is also good to senior people’s health as their bodies and brains are activated by performing some tasks in terms of mental and physical abilities.
On the other hand, the late retirement has positive influences on the development of societies. It is undoubted that the old generation with rich experiences and knowledge is considered as skilled workforce which is mandatory to contribute to social progress. Furthermore, once the senior citizens join the social labor force, the government could decrease a considerable amount of financial resources allocated to welfare and healthcare systems which aims to ensure accepted living standard for the retired. Thus, the national budget can be used in more suitable purposes like education or technology.
In conclusion, it seems evident to me that introducing the extended range of working age can be suitable for the modern social trend as it can have positive impacts on both old people and the society as a whole.
