To what extent is this a positive or negative development?

It is widely true that the boost of advanced technology enables users to get a wide variety of medial sources like music, books without charge. While some people argue that this advanced feature brings benefits to modern citizens, I believe that the support of Internet for this purpose can have both positive and negative influences on social development.
On the one hand, it is undoubted that an information age provides advantages for the human’s life in terms of education and entertainment. Obviously, if the books or various information sources can be freely downloaded from the Internet, individuals might be encouraged to broaden their horizons. This possibility is really significant to citizens in less developed areas who do not get sufficient fund to develop their knowledge. Furthermore, by getting various forms of multimedia via on-line without any fees, it is likely that our life will become better and more comfortable as people can have more different forms of relaxation to relieve stress.
On the other hand, freely getting the copyrighted products like music or book has been a critical problem these days. Firstly, it might breach the law of intellectual properties. Once audience can easily obtain the work done by artists or authors, they would show a lack of respect for other achievements. Secondly, the increasing use of free-downloading functionality should have negative impact on the development of business. If users can get product without paying any premiums, the companies or authors will not earn profit to keep the business developing and motivate creative works. As a result, these areas can gradually be underestimated and disappear in the future.
In conclusion, it seems evident to me that the information explosion with availability of different media forms gives people great advantages to improve their life but also leads to some issues in today’s society.
