Tourism is always a force for good which enables people of different countries to understand each other.

To what extent do you agree with this idea?
Tourism is always promoted internally and externally by any government because this industry plays a key role in contributing to the development of economy. Although international tourism creates some friction between locals and tourists, I would argue that there are far more benefits that local residents will gain from tourism.
The main drawback of international tourism trend is that local cultures are not respected. One of the reasons is that the foreign travelers may not study about the cultures of the destination in advance before they come. So those people coming from different backgrounds may mistakenly act contrary to local norms; which lead to misunderstanding and discrimination from local people. For example, when visiting Singapore, visitors should be aware of its country rules such as no chewing, no throwing litter in the public areas; otherwise they may face with financial penalty from the authority or discourtesy from Singaporean. Moreover, these tourists may encounter difficulty to receive visa to access the country.
Despite the negative fact mentioned above, I believe that tourism brings a lot of benefits to both visiting country and tourists. Firstly, tourists will experience different cultures and cuisines which helps them to open their mind to new places that are outside of their normal boundary. Secondly, understanding the cultures of the destination may open up a new opportunity of investment in that country; which benefits both visitors and locals in the long term. Finally, tourism will create more job opportunities in services like accommodation, transport and entertainment; meaning that the standard of living for local residents will be improved.
In conclusion, while I recognize the possible disadvantage of international tourism, I consider it to be a positive development industry in overall that any government should properly invest in.Attachments:
