Nowadays, more and more people decide to have children later in their life. What are the reasons? What are the effects on society and family life?
It is becoming increasingly popular that many people choose to settle down and give birth later than ever before. There are a number of factors behind this trend, and this may result in some undesirable problems.
There are two primary reasons that people opt to have children later. More and more individuals consider that building and securing their own successful career should be placed high priority on, so they can peruse their goals and excel in their field. Many ambitious people have not finished the heir dreams during their youth, and they believe children will be an obstacle to their approach to the career ladder. They also want to delay childbirth so that they can get countless opportunities to enjoy their life such as traveling the world, which they will not be able to experience when having offspring. By contrast, there are some individuals that are relatively mature want to gain vital parental skills before having children, so they are unlikely give birth early.
This worrying development will lead to many negative effects. First, bringing up children may seem like a challenging task for older parents as they might not be strong enough to take care of their offspring. For example, my aunt gave birth to my cousin when being more than fifty years old, suffering from back pain and asthma makes child rearing become almost impossible. Moreover, it is scientifically evident that getting pregnant after 35 years of age will likely pose a high risk of miscarriage and still birth. The infants of older mothers also have the possibility to experience genetic abnormalities and some physical and intelectual disorders, Down’s syndrome for instance, which will affect negatively the future workforce.
In conclusion. having children later is resulted from wide-ranging motivators. This trend, however, has been exerting adverse impacts on individuals, families, and society as a whole.
